So, word has it that President Bush is planning to hand out pardons like they were going out of style, and include himself. I don't understand: if it's OK for the person ultimately responsible for upholding the law is held to be above it, then what value does the rule of law have?
Then again, the President has only today clearly demonstrated that he is quite capable of ignoring his principles when it's convenient. In a speech today he said "I'm a market-oriented guy, but not when I'm faced with the prospect of a global meltdown." So I guess he might soon also be saying "I'm a law-and-order kind of guy, but not when I'm faced with the prospect of going to jail".
